Abstract: A highly fluorinated or perfluorinated liquid, and method of making the same, modified by the inclusion of at least one salt of fluorinated acid selected from the following groups of compounds: i) alkanes containing one or two carboxylic acid groups and comprising in the range of 6 to 22 carbon atoms in the main chain with fewer than 4 side chains none of which contain more than 2 carbon atoms and in which at least half the hydrogen atoms have been replaced by fluorine; ii) polyethers of the general formula: X-R1-(O-R2)n-(O-R3)m-R4Y where R1 is CZ2, C2Z4 or C3Z6 and Z is all hydrogen or all fluorine or a combination of the two R2 is CF3, C2F4 or C3F6, R3 is C2F4 or C3F6, R2 and R3 are randomly distributed along the chain. Abstract: This invention relates to the form in which polymers are provided, said polymers for use, in combination with a liquid medium, to form a gel from which products such as liquid detergents, cosmetics and toiletries can be produced. The invention provides the polymer, which is typically a carbomer or cross-polyacrylate in a granulated, pelletised or tablet form rather than in the conventional fine powdered form. This conversion of the polymer into either of a granular, pelletised or tablet form is shown to improve the handling of the dry polymer and mitigate many of the problems with the conventional powder and further to improve the rate of blending of the polymer with the liquid medium to form the required gel.

Abstract: The invention of this patent application relates to carboxylic acid polymer compositions and in particular relates to concentrates of polymers which are subsequently used to prepare gels formed of diluted and neutralised polymer. Said polymers are currently supplied in a powder form. The polymers prepared by the addition of multivalent cations provide a concentrate which is the invention of this application and can be provided in either an aqueous form or granular or pelletised form which serves to eliminate existing problems in the powder form relating to the dispersion of the powder in water, the development of electrostatic charges in the said powder and the dusting of the powder. The concentrate of the invention provides a polymer for subsequent dilution and neutralisation for use as a gel wherein the conversion from one state to another is greatly improved.
