Abstract:
The invention generally relates to a tab used to open beer/beverage can ends and food can ends. The tab has one or more arcuate strips that are provided on a surface of the tab proximate to a peripheral surface of the tab where the one or more arcuate strips have been formed further into a preselected portion of curled or hemmed portions of the tab. Tooling for the manufacture of the tab is also provided. A method for manufacturing the tab is additionally provided as well.
Abstract:
A rotating tab is provided. The tab includes a body having a first end and a second end disposed opposite and distal from the first end, a nose portion located at or about the first end of the tab, a lift portion located at or about the second end of the tab, and a rivet receiving portion disposed proximate the nose portion. The rivet receiving portion includes a rivet hole. A rivet extends through the rivet hole and is staked to fasten the rivet receiving portion of the tab to a can end. The body of the tab is structured to be rotated about the rivet to align a portion of the tab with a secondary scoreline in the can end. A portion of the tab is structured to be depressed to sever the secondary scoreline to vent the can end.
Abstract:
Apparatus for forming container shells (5) from material fed into a press (1), including, at a single station, tooling for curling the shell (5) and tooling for forming or reforming the shell (5) including a punch assembly (20) and a die assembly (100) carried by the press (1) adapted to curl and form or reform the shell (5) in a single stroke.
Abstract:
A digitally controlled can printing apparatus for printing on circular two-piece cans, the apparatus including digital print-heads (30) for printing an image on the cans and drives (29) for transporting and rotating the cans in front of the print-heads (30) in registered alignment.
Abstract:
A conversion press wherein a crankshaft (52) drives the motion of the tooling assemblies (130, 140) within a number of lanes (20) is provided. The crankshaft is structured to move the tooling assemblies (130, 140) associated with less than the total number of lanes (20). That is, for example, a four lane conversion press (12) could include two crankshafts (52) each actuating the tooling assemblies (130, 140) of two lanes. In an exemplary embodiment, each lane has a single associated crankshaft (52).
Abstract:
A can end is provided, which includes a severable panel, a peripheral scoreline defining the periphery of the severable panel, an opening mechanism such as a pull tab, a rivet coupling the pull tab to the severable panel, and a rivet base scoreline in the public side of the severable panel within about 0.025 inch or less of the stem of the rivet. The rivet base scoreline includes an arcuate head portion, first and second arm portions extending from the arcuate head portion, and first and second ends. The base of the rivet has a radius of curvature forming an intersection between the stem of the rivet and the public side of the severable panel. The arcuate head portion of the rivet base scoreline is contiguous with the radius of curvature. The pull tab includes a nose portion having a number of apertures aligned with corresponding portions of the rivet base scoreline disposed thereunder.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for forming a shell with a central panel and a chuck wall is provided. The apparatus and method employ the use of a biasing member to selectively bias and control movement of the inner pressure sleeve and a die core having an outer diameter equal to or greater than the outer diameter of the punch core. The apparatus and method can also be employed in a single action press or a double action press.
