Abstract: A method for applying a coating meeting a predetermined volatile organic compound (VOC) standard. The compound functions as a coating and plasticizer. The inventive method involves mixing acetone and terpene alcohol, or terpineol, to form a solvent system with a flash point of at least 140 °F. A resin is solubilized into the solvent system and forms a coating. The coating is cast over substrate surfaces to cure and dry. The solvent system produced by the inventive method can also be used in other applications including as a cleaning composition.
