Abstract:
The present invention is directed to antigen binding proteins including, but not limited to, monoclonal antibodies and antigen binding fragments thereof, that specifically bind to and preferably neutralize human cytomegalovirus (CMV). The antigen binding proteins of the invention are useful as a prophylactic and/or therapeutic agent for preventing and/or treating CMV infections in a patient in need thereof. Also encompassed by the invention are pharmaceutical compositions comprising the antigen binding proteins of the invention and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. The invention further relates to methods of using the antigen binding proteins and pharmaceutical compositions of the invention for the prevention or treatment of CMV infection in patients in need thereof.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for automatically focusing a lens of a digital imaging device, such as a digital still or video camera or camera phone, that reduces the auto focus time while not compromising image sharpness quality and simultaneously reducing device power consumption due to focus actuator movement, all without tuning or adjustment of thresholds or parameters is disclosed. The present invention automatically computes a set of digital band-pass filters matched to the imaging device specifications along with corresponding step-size magnitudes. A filter-switching search for the in-focus focus actuator position is formulated such that filters are switched and step-sizes are reduced as the search gets closer to the in-focus position by utilizing local estimates of the first and second-order differential information of the focus value surface.
Abstract:
The present invention includes methods of treating cancer in a subject, comprising administering to the subject a therapeutically effective amount of a non-proteolytically activated thrombin receptor agonist.
Abstract:
The present invention provides an optical apparatus having a multimode interference coupler configured to optically couple a strip waveguide to a slot photonic crystal waveguide. The multimode interference coupler has a coupling efficiency to the slot photonic crystal waveguide greater than or equal to 90%, a width that is approximately equal to a defect width of the slot photonic crystal waveguide, a length that is equal to or less than 1.5 μm, and interfaces with the slot photonic crystal waveguide at an edge of a period that gives a termination parameter of approximately zero. The optical apparatus may also include an insulation gap disposed between the multimode interference coupler and the slot photonic crystal waveguide, wherein the length of the multimode interference coupler is reduced by approximately one half of a width of the insulation gap.
Abstract:
A transponder includes a stimulus driver configured to discharge an electrical stimulus when a trigger signal is received. A first conducting electrode is coupled to the stimulus driver and conducts the electrical stimulus discharged by the stimulus driver. A second conducting electrode is coupled to the stimulus driver and conducts the electrical stimulus conducted by the first conducting electrode. A depolarization resistance connects the first conducting electrode to the second conducting electrode in response to the trigger signal.

Abstract:
An apparatus for performing magnetic electroporation is disclosed. A required electric field for electroporation is generated using a pulsed magnetic field through a closed magnetic yoke, such as a toroid, placed in a flow path of a fluid medium to be processed. The fluid medium flows through the orifice of the magnetic yoke, with the fluid medium flowing through and around the yoke. The required power to send a maximum flux through the magnetic yoke is less than the required power in a conventional apparatus for performing electroporation.
Abstract:
A method for facilitating the avoidance of a vehicle collision with an object includes the following steps: a) providing an environment for generating training examples, b) evolving a good driver using a visual input, c) evolving a crash predictor using a visual input, and d) outputting a warning signal.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a method of stimulating bone growth at a site in a subject in need of osteoinduction or cartilage repair. The method comprises the step of administering a therapeutically effective amount of an agonist of the non-proteolytically activated thrombin receptor to the site. Also disclosed is a method of stimulating the proliferation and expansion of chrondroxytes in vitro . The method comprises culturing chrondrocytes in the presence of a stimulating amount of an NPAR agonist.
