Abstract:
A system of ultrasound based cellular stimulation may include a stimulation apparatus and a stimulation controller. The stimulation apparatus may include a transducer element formed from a single crystal piezoelectric material such as lithium niobate. The stimulation apparatus may deliver high magnitudes of acoustic pressure relative to its dimensions (e.g., size, weight, and/or the like) and without significant heating. The stimulation controller may determine a cellular response to ultrasound stimulation such as membrane deflection and transmembrane voltage change. The stimulation controller may determine, based on the predicted cellular response, parameters for an ultrasound stimulation treatment for a patient such as a magnitude and/or duration of an ultrasonic stimulus for achieving a desired magnitude of membrane deflection and/or transmembrane voltage changes. The ultrasound stimulation treatment may be administered to the patient by the stimulation apparatus operating in accordance with the parameters.
Abstract:
A method for analytically determining novelty response, is provided. The method includes receiving a query item indicative of a response to a first stimulus, assigning in a filter engine multiple query hash functions to the query item, and comparing a first query hash function to a database item, each database item occupying a position indicative of a query hash function in the filter engine. The method also includes reducing a value for the database item when the database item is indicative of the first query hash function, and determining a novelty score for the first stimulus by computing a weighted sum of the values of the database items in the filter engine. A system and a memory storing instructions to cause the system to perform the above method are also provided.

A method to, is provided for collecting an image from a sample. The method includes selecting a radiation level for a first probe to meet a desired radiation dosage, and providing, with the first probe, a radiation at a selected point within a region of the sample. The method includes identifying a second selected point within the region of the sample based on a down sampling scheme, and providing a second radiation amount at the second selected point within the region of the sample. The method also includes interpolating a first datum and a second datum based on an up sampling scheme to obtain a plurality of data, and forming an image of the region of the sample with the plurality of data. A system to perform the above method and including the first probe is also provided.

In one aspect, a method to provide a cognitive or sensory assessment of a subject includes selecting a profile category from among a cognitive performance profile, a sensory performance profile, and a cognitive and sensory performance profile, presenting a sequence of stimuli to a subject, the sequence of stimuli based on the selected profile category, acquiring physiological signals of the subject before, during, and after the presenting the sequence of stimuli to produce physiological data, and processing the physiological data to generate an information set including one or more quantitative values associated with the selected profile category.

A method and apparatus for applying electrical signals in specific spatial patterns to selectively activate sensory cells. The method comprises interfacing a population of cells with two or more electrodes, identifying target cells within the population to activate by electrical signals; and applying electrical signals in a spatial pattern to the population via the electrodes, such that the target cells are selectively activated in the desired spatial pattern.

This disclosure concerns compositions and methods for immunoenhancement and/or immunosuppression. In certain embodiments, the disclosure concerns methods of using a TAM receptor inhibitor for immunoenhancement, for example as a vaccine adjuvant, for the treatment of sepsis, or for treating an immunocompromised subject. Also disclosed are methods of screening for immunoenhancing agents. In other embodiments, the disclosure concerns methods of using a TAM receptor agonist for immunosuppression, for example as a treatment for an autoimmune disorder, for the treatment of an allergy, or for treating graft-versus-host disease in a subject. Also disclosed are methods of screening for immunosuppressive agents.
