Disclosed herein is a latchbolt retractor (12). The latchbolt retractor (12) comprises a latchbolt retraction mechanism (30) mounted to a carriage (28). The latchbolt retraction mechanism (30) comprising a latchbolt assembly coupler (32) for operational coupling to a latchbolt assembly (22). The carriage (28) is configured to slide along at least one rail (14,16) for positioning the latchbolt assembly coupler (32) relative to the latchbolt.

A mechanism (10) and a method for operating a mechanism for transmitting a torque applied to a handle (12). The mechanism (10) comprising: a torque transmitter (18). The torque transmitter (18) is for transmitting the torque applied to the handle (12) coupled thereto. The mechanism (10) comprises a torque transmitter stop (40) within the housing (14). The torque transmitter (18) and the torque transmitter stop (40) are cooperatively arranged for the torque transmitter stop (40) and the torque transmitter (18) to engage to arrest a torque transmitter rotation. The torque transmitter (18) and the torque transmitter stop (40) are cooperatively arranged for the torque transmitter stop (40) and the torque transmitter (18) to disengage when the torque so applied exceeds a predetermined torque value.

A mechanism (30) for a lockset (10); the mechanism (30) comprises a latchbolt retractor (22) that is rotationally actuatable. The mechanism (30) also comprises a rotationally mounted handle coupler (36). The rotationally mounted handle coupler (36) is rotatable by a rotation of a handle (12) when coupled thereto and comprises an adaptor receiver (46) for receiving any one of a plurality of adaptors (48,52,54). The rotationally mounted handle coupler is configured to engage with at least one of the plurality of adaptors (48,52), but not all of the plurality of adaptors (54), for transmission of the rotation of the handle (12) to a latchbolt retractor actuator (22).

The invention relates to a handle and lock assembly (10) including a support base (12) capable of being fitted to a door or the like, a handle (11) being mounted on and rotatable about the support base (12). The assembly (10) includes a shaft (17) extending from the handle (11) for connection with a latching mechanism, and a cylinder recess (19) in the handle (11) for receiving a lock assembly (21). The handle (11) can be locked by a locking bolt (72) adapted to enter into one of a plurality of apertures (80) in the base (12), so as to provide an interference between the handle (11) and the base (12) to prevent rotation of the handle (11) with respect to the base (12) when in a locked position. The locking bolt (72) can be released from the aperture (80) when the lock assembly (21) is turned through a predetermined angle to an unlocked position. The handle (11) can be locked in one or more positions relative to the support base (12). The lock assembly (21) is secured to the handle (11) by a screw. Access to the screw can be blocked by a blocking cam (31) driven by a drive cam (70) between a first position when the lock assembly (21) is in a locked position wherein the blocking cam (31) blocks access to the screw, and a second position when the lock assembly (21) is in an unlocked position wherein the blocking cam (31) allows for a tool to access the screw.
