Abstract:
An optical fibre coupling device and a method are disclosed. The optical fibre coupling device comprises a first patch strip comprising a first plurality of optical fibre connectors arranged along a face of the first patch strip and a second patch strip comprising a second plurality of optical fibre connectors arranged along a face of the second patch strip, the first and second patch strips being in a stacked arrangement where the second plurality of optical fibre connectors is offset from the first plurality of optical fibre connectors in a first and a second direction transverse to a stacking direction. Such offsetting improves access to the individual optical fibre connectors. This improved access assists an operative when managing or maintaining optical fibre connections and helps to reduce the likelihood of fatigue or failure since adjacent optical fibre connections are undisturbed during this process and the optical fibre connections may be easily accessed without needing to move or manipulate adjacent patch strips.

Abstract:
A method of forming a branch-off seal between a heat-shrinkable sleeve and at least two spaced-apart elongate substrates, which comprises the steps of: (a) positioning the substrates within the heat-shrinkable sleeve (4); (b) positioning between the substrates and within the sleeve at an open end thereof a plug (15) having a larger cross-sectional size at a first position away from said open end and a smaller cross-sectional size at a second position towards said open end; (c) positioning a heat-activatable sealing material at the first position; (d) forming shrinkable conduits in the sleeve by positioning one or more clips (2, 3) at the open end of the sleeve such that the substrates and the plug are in respective conduits; and (e) while the clip remains on the sleeve, applying heat so as to affect shrinkage of the sleeve to activate the sealant, and form the desired seal.

The gel inner ring (7) and the gel outer ring (6, 10a) are made of a gel sealing material, wherein the sealing section (22) is formed therebetween. The gel outer ring (6, 10a) comprises a first circumferential segment (6) and at least one second circumferential segment (10a) which is adapted to be detachable from the first circumferential segment (6) to provide a separate accessible sealing section.
Abstract:
A cable termination device comprising first and second parts engageable with each other to grip between them a cable near its unsecured end, wherein at least one of the said parts incorporates gripping means comprising one or more resilient plate-like tongues arranged to extend across the cable longitudinal axis and toresiliently press against the cable (when present), and the said tongues are inclined at an angle within the range from 2º to 15º towards the cable (when present) in a sense pointing away from its terminated end. The device may additionally comprise one or more mounting feet arranged for engagement with a mounting support whereby two or more such termination devices may be engaged with the mounting support in close or touching proximity to one another.
Abstract:
A protective casing base component adapted to act as a base part of an optical fibre splice enclosure of the type including a generally tubular housing having an open end and a closed end and including means for sealing the enclosure including means for sealing the open end of the housing to the said casing component so that a plurality of optical fibre cables can pass into and out of the enclosure in use through an opening in the said component for the individual optical fibres in the cables to be spliced or connected to other such optical fibres within the enclosure, characterised in that the casing component is formed in such a way that it can be positioned or removed from a cable or plurality of cables at an intermediate point along the length thereof without interrupting the continuity of the cables, and having means for sealing the interior of the enclosure from external agencies.
