    Abstract: The present application discloses improved BPA-free crosslinked polymers comprising a bis-electrophile and a polynucleophile, useful in commercial employment as can linings and such. Exemplary embodiments comprise a dianhydride and a polyol, a bis-phenol (other than BPA) and a polyepoxide, a bis-epoxide and a polyphenol, and a bis-styrene and an unsaturated polyester.

    Abstract: A method of making a metal oxide based component for use in a solar cell, without sintering the metal oxide. The method includes flocculating a metal oxide solution that is used to produce the non-sintered metal oxide component. A composition for use in making a non-sintered solar cell component. The composition includes a metal oxide solution and a flocculant for flocculating particles of the metal oxide solution. A solar cell having an anode and interfacing the anode is a semiconductor that includes a metal oxide that is produced by a method that does not require sintering of the metal oxide. The method comprises flocculating a solution of the metal oxide. The solar cell further includes a cathode and an electrolyte in electrical communication with the semiconductor and the cathode.

    Abstract: Provided herein are methods of recovering rare earth metals from metallic waste using extraction and precipitation processes. In one embodiment, this application discloses a method of selectively extracting one or more rare earth metals from a metallic substrate, the method comprising the steps of: (a) crushing the metallic substrate to produce a crushed composition; (b) treating the crushed composition with a strong acid solution to produce an extraction composition; (c) heating the extraction composition; (d) adding a rare earth chelating agent to the heated extraction composition to produce a precipitate; and (e) isolating the precipitate.

    Abstract: A dye-sensitized solar cell ("DSSC") includes an anode, a cathode, a semiconductor layer, a dye covalently attached to the semiconductor layer, and an electrolyte, wherein the semiconductor layer includes a metal oxide and an organic or inorganic insulating component to facilitate forward transfer of electrons to the anode. The semiconductor additive or insulating component may include, for example, alpha aluminum oxide, gamma aluminum oxide, fumed silica, silica, diatomaceous earth, aluminum titanate, hydroxyapatite, calcium phosphate, iron titanate, and mixtures thereof.
