Abstract:
A short laser pulse generator for continuous-wave lasers is characterised in that it has an intracavity shutter that interrupts the beam path. Alternatively, the laser is operated in a stand-by mode and has a voltage discharge circuit that temporarily increases the laser radiation power to high levels.
Abstract:
A device for treating the fundus of the eye uses a laser which emits light (6) in the visible range and whose beam is directed by an optical device (3) onto the area to be treated. An observation device (3, 4', 4'') for the visual observation of the fundus has a filter (7) which is substantially opaque to light of the wavelength of the laser radiation. The filter (7) is fixed in the beam path of the observation device and is a narrow-band interference filter whose transmission factor at the wavelength(s) of the laser is less than 5 % whereas in the visible range it is greater than 80 %. A device for aiming the therapeutic laser beam at the fundus generates an image in the wavelength range in which the filter transmission factor is greater than 80 %.

Abstract:
Described is a laser resonator with two end-mirrors connected a fixed distance apart by means of a spacer unit. The invention is characterized by the fact that the spacer unit is connected up to a heating/cooling unit which enables its temperature to be kept constant.
Abstract:
The description relates to a device for coaxially taking an auxiliary laser beam into the beam path of a main laser beam. The invention is characterised in that there is an insertion unit reflecting the auxiliary laser beam which can be inserted into the main beam path and interrupts the main beam during insertion.
Abstract:
Described is a laser whose output power can be varied by means of an adjustment device (45) with an adjustment element (49) which is switched in by the operator but cuts out automatically. Using a beam splitter (15), part of the laser beam (5) is directed on to a light-sensitive element (17) in order to determine the laser power. The values of the selected and instantaneous output power are indicated on the display (32a, 32b) of a display unit (33). The adjustment element (49) can be switched in using only one hand and, with the adjustment element switched in, the laser power required can be adjusted using only one hand.

Abstract:
Described is a laser system comprising a laser (10), which can be switched between at least two power levels, and a power supply (1 + 2) for the laser which is connected up to the mains supply which applies the input voltage. The invention is characterized by the fact that the laser power supply has a distributing unit (1) the input terminal of which is connected to the mains voltage and which is connected to a laser power supply unit (2) and to a charging unit (4) for an accumulator unit (5) in such a way that, while the laser is being operated at low power, the charging unit is also powered, in addition to the laser power supply unit, from the mains, and that, while laser is being operated at high power, the output terminal of the accumulator unit is connected to the laser power supply unit.
Abstract:
An argon ion laser has a cathode (2) and an anode (3) at the two ends of its gas-tight discharge tube (1). The anode (3) is designed as a one-piece anode tube (11) made of sintered aluminium oxide powder which does not conduct electricity but is a good conductor of heat; the tube has an electrically conductive inner partial coating (10a). The conductive inner partial coating (10a) acts as an anode electrode and is connected by a solder joint to a flange (7) which serves as an anode lead. The two ends of the tube have a coating (10a, 12), preferably of nickel, which permits gas-tight soldering of the anode tube (11) to both the discharge tube (1) and the flange (7). The flange (7) and the discharge tube (1) are electrically insulated from each other by the anode tube (11). This anode tube (11) can be used to construct a simple and an extremely reliable argon laser; the heat is dissipated from the anode (3) of the laser of the invention much more efficiently than in known lasers because the heat generated at the anode (3) is absorbed directly by the cooling water.
Abstract:
Described is a device for feeding at least one light beam into an optical fibre, the device comprising a displacement mechanism and focussing optics. Prior art devices have either a complex displacement mechanism using micrometer screws, or additional optical components by means of which the requirements on the precision of the displacement mechanism are lowered. The device proposed by the invention has movement elements comprising a cone (11) making point contact with a surface (10). The displacement mechanism of the device proposed can be manufactured simply and inexpensively and makes micrometer-precision adjustment possible.
