In some embodiments, (a) comprises from 75 to 99 wt%of the compositions, (b), when present, comprises from 0.1 to 5 wt%of the compositions, and (c) comprises from 0.1 to 25 wt%of the composition, each based on the dry weight of the compositions. Methods for preparing water-based pressure sensitive adhesive compositions are also disclosed comprising emulsion polymerizing at least one unsaturated monomer, thereby forming an emulsion polymer having a glass transition temperature of less than or equal to -10℃ and blending the emulsion polymer together with a dispersant or silane-containing compound and an ethylene or propylene copolymer emulsion. Water-based pressure sensitive adhesives and pressure sensitive adhesive films are also disclosed.
Abstract:
A rosin dispersion is a reaction product of, by dry weight based on total dry weight of the rosin dispersion, from 80 % to 98 % a rosin resin, and from 2% to 20 % a dispersant. The rosin resin is processed by at least one method of a) modification, b) hydrogenation or disproportionation, and c) polymerization or esterification from raw material rosins. The dispersant is selected from C 18 -C 32 aliphatic carboxylic acids, olefin (meth) acrylic acid copolymers, and other acid/anhydride modified polymers. A continuous process for preparing the rosin dispersion and an adhesive formulation comprising the rosin dispersion are also included.

A method for making a water-based adhesive composition is disclosed. The method comprises dispersing at least one unsaturated monomer and at least one surfactant in an aqueous medium to form an emulsified mixture. The method further comprises introducing at least one initiator to the emulsified mixture, thereby polymerizing the at least one unsaturated monomer and forming an emulsion polymer. The method still further comprises introducing at least one polyol ester of a conjugated acid to the emulsion polymer upon completion of polymerization of the at least one unsaturated monomer. The conjugated acid may be derived from a naturally-occurring dry oil, such as tung oil. There is still further provided a pressure sensitive adhesive comprising the composition prepared according to the disclosed method.
