摘要: A method for determining orthodontic brackets in order to use standard brackets or a combination of standard and custom brackets. The method determines which teeth in a digital 3D model of teeth have surfaces that will virtually fit to a base of a standard bracket within a tolerance. For those teeth that will virtually fit to one of the standard brackets, each of the teeth are associated with the corresponding standard bracket for later placement of the brackets on the surfaces of the patient's teeth. The method also identifies the teeth in the digital 3D model of teeth that will not virtually fit to a standard bracket, and brackets with custom bases can be designed and made for those teeth.

摘要: A removable dental appliance may include an appliance body configured to at least partially surround a plurality of teeth of a patient. The appliance body defines a shell configured to receive a tooth of the plurality of teeth in an initial position and a bendable flap integrally formed with the appliance body to extend from a hinge axis of the shell. The bendable flap may be configured to apply a force to the tooth to cause movement of the tooth toward a desired position when the removable dental appliance is worn by the patient.

摘要: Various embodiments of an orthodontic appliance and method for forming such appliance are disclosed. The appliance can include a first anchor and a second anchor each including an anchor coupling and a base adapted to connect the respective anchor to a surface of a first tooth and a second tooth respectively. The appliance can also include an arch member including an arch member body and first and second arch member couplings integral with the body, the arch member body including a cross-sectional geometry that varies along a length of the body. The first arch member coupling can be releasably connectable to the anchor coupling of the first anchor and the second arch member coupling can be releasably connectable to the anchor coupling of the second anchor. The arch member body can include a first nonlinear portion between the first arch member coupling and the second arch member coupling.

摘要: Techniques are described for moving an orthodontic object (e.g., an orthodontic appliance and/or its associated tooth) in response to input indicative of a desired movement of the object along a virtual archwire. The movement of objects along the archwire may be used to generate a three-dimensional (3D) representation of a patient's dental arch. The manner in which the object is to be moved along the virtual archwire may be determined automatically during creation of a treatment plan for a patient, or may be determined and input by an orthodontic practitioner as part of the creation of the treatment plan.

摘要: A method of making a transfer apparatus includes providing a physical mockup having a shape that corresponds to a positive shape of a patient's dental arch and a positive shape of one or more appliance analogs including ramps extending in a generally gingival direction from the analog. A transfer tray may be formed over the physical mockup, with the transfer tray representing a negative replica of at least a portion of the mockup. One or more receptacles and related channels are accordingly formed in the ray, each receptacle approximating a least a portion of the shape of an appliance analog and each channel approximating at least a portion of the shape of a ramp. An appliance associated with an appliance analog is placed into a receptacle of the one or more receptacles, and the appliance may be bonded to a tooth surface of the patient's dental arch.

摘要: The invention relates to a method for determining whether a tooth is correctly shaped and oriented to avoid interference with another tooth using virtual articulation. The method comprises a) receiving data indicative of a virtual dentition of an oral cavity of a patient by a computing device, the data indicative of the virtual dentition including data indicative of at least one of a virtual mandibular arch representing a mandibular arch of the patient or a virtual maxillary arch representing a maxillary arch of the patient; b) receiving data indicating a selected point on the virtual dentition of the oral cavity; and c) determining a tangent vector indicating a direction of motion of the selected point and determining whether the orientation of a tooth of the virtual dentition or the shape of the tooth is correctly shaped and oriented based on the determined tangent vector, wherein the tangent vector is based on a rotational axis of the virtual mandibular arch.

The indirect bonding apparatus includes a receptacle having a frame at least partially surrounding the custom bracket bonding pad perimeter, the receptacle joined to the bracket bonding pad with a sprue and configured to receive a tooth. The custom bracket bonding pad is configured to complement contours of a portion of the tooth surface. The bracket bonding pad is formed integrally with the receptacle.
