Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a mobile I/O module communications device (1) for setting up cable connections between field devices (13) and I/O modules (15) in a process control system (23). The mobile I/O module communications device (1) comprises a cable interface (9) configured to physically connect to an I/O module cable (17) that connects an I/O module (15) with a field device (13), and processing circuitry (3) configured to obtain a field device ID uniquely identifying a field device distinct from the mobile I/O module communications device (1). The processing circuitry (3) is configured to send the field device ID to an I/O channel of an I/O module (15) via an I/O module cable (17) connected to the cable interface (9) and to the I/O module (15). The present disclosure furthermore relates to a system including a mobile I/O module communications device.
