    Abstract: A client device is provided for use with a user, a network extender device and a gateway device. The client device includes: a memory; a graphic user interface configured to provide an instruction to the user to place the client device within a predetermined distance from the network extender device; and a processor configured to execute instructions stored on the memory to cause the client device to: obtain the backhaul credentials from the wireless network; obtain the extender identification data from the network extender device; instruct the graphic user interface to provide the instruction to the user to place the client device within a predetermined distance from the network extender device; communicate with the network extender device based on the extender identification data; and provide the backhaul credentials to the network extender device to enable the network extender device to join the wireless network.

    Abstract: A method for new wireless extender onboarding in a wireless network includes scanning a machine readable indicia on the new wireless extender, transmitting an identifier represented by the machine readable indicia to a network gateway of the wireless network, computing a secure hash of the identifier provided into a proprietary information element, transmitting the secure hash to existing wireless extenders in the wireless network, communicating beacons comprising the secure hash to the new wireless extender, determining a strongest received signal strength indication from received signal strength indications associated with the network gateway and the existing wireless extenders, and initiating a Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) pairing session with one of the network gateway and the existing wireless extenders associated with the strongest received signal strength.

    Abstract: A steering controller of an access point device can provide an optimized network environment or performance by steering a target client device to a basic service set (BSS) of a network device that is different from the current BSS of the target client device based on one or more non-associated client (NAC) link quality parameters to the BSS on the network device. The steering controller can identify the target client device based on a steering condition. A delta link quality can be determined based on the NAC link quality parameters and the target link quality parameters associated with the target client device. The steering controller can send one or more steering instructions to the target client device if a candidate BSS is identified based on a comparison between a determined maximum difference between a NAC link quality parameter and a target link quality parameter and an associated threshold.

    Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer readable media may be operable to facilitate station steering based upon computed channel impact. A channel impact of moving a station to one or more different link points within a WLAN may be calculated, and based upon the calculated channel impacts, the station may be steered to a certain link point. Using the calculated channel impacts, one or more stations may be selected for removal from an overloaded link point, a new link point may be selected for association with a station, and a determination may be made whether other WLAN changes may cause a backhaul or fronthaul channel utilization to exceed a corresponding threshold.

    Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer readable media can be operable to facilitate an exchange of messages between an access point and a station, wherein the access point an unsolicited unique identifier response that comprises a unique identifier from the station. The station provides the unsolicited unique identifier response to the access point after a secure connection is established between the access point and the station such that the unsolicited unique identifier response is sent via the secure connection. The response from the station may include additional limitations on the use of the unique identifier by the access point. The access point may provide different features a station or allow or disallow access to a service or a feature depending upon the unsolicited unique identifier response received from the station.

    Abstract: A wireless gateway for steering a client device between content streaming apparatuses in a wireless local area network (WLAN). The gateway provides an access point (GW AP) including a gateway steering controller configured to determine whether a client device should be steered to a content streaming apparatus based on at least one sample measurement on received signal strength between the client device and the content streaming apparatus and at least one other content streaming apparatus, and conduct steering logic calculations. The steering logic calculations are compared against predetermined thresholds, and said gateway steering controller provides an instruction to steer the client device to one of the content streaming apparatuses based on a difference between the steering logic calculations and the predetermined thresholds. Optionally, the gateway steering controller may also provide band steering as well as signal strength steering.

    Abstract: To prevent a client device from being stranded, a steering controller of an access point device can provide an improved network environment or performance by steering a target client device to a basic service set (BSS) of a network device that is different from the current BSS of the target client device based on a first or a poor link quality threshold where non-associated client (NAC) link quality parameters for NAC network devices within the network environment, such as a mesh network, is not available. The steering controller can select or identify a candidate BSS and then send a steering query to the target client device. The steering controller can receive a response from the target client device that indicates whether the steering to the candidate BSS was successful or accepted by the targeted client device.

    Abstract: A method for automatic steering of client devices accessing a network to a different access point on the network is provided. A network controller of the network device automatically identifies a pre-determined type of electronic client device gaining access to the network and automatically designates the client device as non-steerable when identified as the predetermined type of electronic client device. Thus, when the network controller selects a client device for being steered to a different access point of the network during a steering event, client devices designated as non-steerable by the network controller are prevented from being steered and only client devices that are not designated as non-steerable are available as candidates to be steered. A network device is also provided.
