    Abstract: The invention concerns an aircraft probe for resisting formation and propagation of ice comprising: • a base that is intended to be attached to an aircraft; • a housing extending from the base, said housing comprising:  a body extending from a leading edge of the housing to a trailing edge of the housing, defining at least an airfoil portion extending at least partially from the base to the end of the housing;  an airflow inlet having a first surface facing to an incoming airflow;  a primary airflow passage from the airflow inlet to a primary airflow outlet; and  a sensor assembly disposed within a sensor flow passage; wherein the surface of said housing having functional properties, said functional properties comprising hydrophobic or superhydrophobic and or icephobic or omniphobic, or hydrophilic properties characterized in that said surface functional properties are induced partly or wholly by laser treatment of the surface and wherein surface functional properties are arranged in topographical patterns.
