摘要: A catheter adapted to slidably receive a hollow shaft through its lumen. An expandable balloon is attached to the distal portion of the hollow shaft. A nose piece disposed at the front face of the balloon forms a connection between the balloon and the distal portion of the hollow shaft. When the balloon is expanded the nose piece does not protrude beyond the front face of the balloon.

摘要: A method for producing a medical instrument, the method includes coupling a balloon-based distal end of the medical instrument to a jig that sets the distal end to an expanded position. While the distal end is coupled to the jig, one or more electrodes are disposed on an outer surface of the distal end, one or more openings are formed in a wall of the distal end, and are threaded through the openings respective leads coupled to at least one of respective sensors and electrodes that are mounted on the outer surface of the distal end. One or more patches that cover the openings and couple the at least one of respective sensors and electrodes to the outer surface of the distal end, are coupled on the outer surface of the distal end.

摘要: Medical catheterization is carried out by introducing a catheter into a heart, sliding the catheter through a sheath that encloses a multi-electrode probe into a chamber of the heart. The sheath is retracted to expose the probe. As the sheath is retracted the exposed probe expands into a spiral configuration, and the electrodes contact the endocardial surface of the chamber at multiple contact points.

The tool (21) has an inner tube (82), which is bendable without breaking over a range of angles in response to a bending force, and which retains the bent shape after the bending force has been removed. The inner tube (82) is located within the insertion tube (75). A flexible tubing (80) defines a lumen (73) and is contained within the inner tube (82). A tool working tip (70) is configured to contact tissue in the subject and to mate with a distal termination of the inner tube (82). A rigid outer tube (74) grips outer surfaces of the working tip (70) and of the inner tube (82) so as to maintain an opening of the working tip (70) in communication with the flexible tubing lumen (73).

摘要: In one embodiment, a medical apparatus, includes a medical instrument configured to move within a passage in a body of a patient, a position tracking system to track coordinates of the medical instrument within the body, a display screen, and a processor to register the position tracking system and a 3D computerized tomography (CT) image of at least a part of the body within a common frame of reference, find a 3D path of the medical instrument through the passage from a start point to a termination point within the common frame of reference, compute a direction to the 3D path from the medical instrument responsively to the tracked coordinates, and render and simultaneously display on the display screen respective 2D CT slices, based on the 3D CT image, including respective 2D indications of the direction to the 3D path from the instrument projected onto the respective 2D CT slices.

摘要: A method includes, using a probe, applying irreversible electroporation (IRE) pulses to tissue over a time period to form a lesion in the tissue. A contact force applied to the tissue by the probe is measured over the time period. An IRE index is calculated based on the measured contact force and on a power level of the IRE pulses. Application of the IRE pulses to the tissue is ceased in response to the calculated IRE index reaching a prespecified target IRE index value.

摘要: An implant (20) includes a hollow container (24) and a valve (22). The hollow container is configured to be implanted in an organ of a patient, and to contain filling material (50). The valve has first and second position sensors coupled thereto, and is configured to allow passage of the filling material to and from the container, so as to vary a volume of the implant. In the preferred embodiment the valve is configured to allow passage of a syringe (26) therethrough and the sensors are configured to produce signals indicative of their position in a coordinate system of a position tracking system (90).
