The embodiments described herein generally relate to an electronic communication module suitable for incorporating into a tire or tire retread, where the electronic communication module comprises a radio device having at least a portion of its outer surface surrounded by a rubber composition. Certain embodiments also relate to tires or tire retreads containing the electronic communication module. In addition, certain embodiments relate to methods for improving the readability of a radio device incorporated into a tire or tire retread.

A method of preparing a tire with self-sealing properties, the method including the steps of providing a cured tire, the tire including a first bead, a second bead, a carcass layer extending from the first bead to the second bead, and an optional innerliner layer disposed interior to the carcass layer; directly or indirectly applying a sealant composition to at least a portion of the carcass layer or to at least a portion of the optional innerliner; and directly applying an air barrier composition to at least a portion of the carcass layer or to at least a portion of the optional innerliner.
Abstract:
Disclosed herein are magnetic rubber compositions including magnetic particles and a rubber, and tires and tire components made from the magnetic rubber compositions. The magnetic rubber compositions are used to form belt assemblies having non-metal reinforcing components, such as fiberglass. Also disclosed herein are method of manufacturing belt assemblies and tires with non-metal belt assemblies that incorporate the magnetic rubber compositions.
Abstract:
Methods for increasing the read range of an electronic communication module within a tire and methods for improving the read range of an electronic communication module within a tire are provided herein. As discussed further herein, the read range can be increased by applying strain to the tire without abrading its tread, resulting in an increase in read range of 20% or more. Similarly, the read range can be improved by applying strain to the tire without circumferentially contacting the outer surface of its tread, resulting in an increase in the same-distance-signal-strength of 5% or more. Also provided are tires made according to the disclosed methods.

Disclosed herein is a rubber coating for an electronic communication module, the coating comprising 100 phr of at least one diene-based elastomer, and at least one nano-sized inorganic material having a dielectric constant of at least 9 and a loss tangent of less than 0.1, wherein the coating when cured has a dielectric constant of at least 4.5 and a loss tangent of less than 0.01. Also disclosed are an electronic communication module comprising a radio device having at least a portion of its outer surface surrounded by the rubber coating (i.e., a rubber composition of specified composition), tires or tire retreads incorporating the electronic communication module, and methods for increasing the dielectric constant of a rubber coating without increasing its loss tangent.

Disclosed herein are tires with a component comprising a cured rubber composition having a high dielectric constant, tire bead fillers comprising a cured rubber composition having a high dielectric constant, and related methods for increasing the dielectric constant of a cured rubber composition for a tire component. According to certain embodiments, the cured rubber composition has a dielectric constant of at least 20 and comprises 100 phr of at least one conjugated diene monomer-containing elastomer, filler comprising at least 25 phr of reinforcing carbon black, a cure package of specified composition, and optionally at least one anti-reversion agent.
