Abstract: An actuation apparatus is disclosed. The actuation apparatus comprises a first part (2), a second part (10), and a bearing arrangement (20) supporting the second part on the first part. The bearing arrangement is arranged to guide movement of the second part with respect to the first part. The bearing arrangement comprises a bearing having a first bearing surface (31) located on the first part and a second bearing surface (32) located on the second part, and a rolling bearing (33, 38) configured to be disposed between the first and second bearing surfaces such that the first and second bearing surfaces are spaced by a gap. One of the first bearing surface and the second bearing surface is configured such that the bearing surface has a single contact point with the rolling bearing at any one time and the other of the first bearing surface and the second bearing surface is configured such that the bearing surface has two contact points with the rolling bearing at any one time. The two contact points of the first or second bearing surface are located closer to the axis of rotation of the rolling bearing than the single contact point of the other of the first or second bearing surface, such that the distance moved by the rolling bearing relative to the first part is different to the distance moved by the second part relative to the rolling bearing.

Abstract: A shape memory alloy (SMA) actuator (100) for a camera assembly, comprising: - a support structure supporting an electronic component, wherein the electronic component is susceptible to interference caused by magnetic flux; - a moveable part moveable relative to the support structure; one or more SMA components (12) connected between the moveable part and the support structure, wherein the one or more SMA components are configured to, on contraction, drive movement of the movable part; - a first electrical path and a second electrical path defined between, and/or including, each of the one or more SMA components (12) and respective electrical terminals (3a); and wherein the first and second electrical paths of each of the one or more SMA components are configured to, at least in part, extend adjacently to and in parallel with each other, and enabling the electrical current in the respective paths to flow in opposite directions, so as to minimise combined magnetic flux from the first and second electrical paths into the electronic component.

Abstract: An actuator assembly (1) comprising a support structure (2); a movable part (10) movable relative to the support structure; a bearing arrangement (20) supporting the movable part on the support structure and arranged to guide helical movement of the movable part with respect to the support structure about a helical axis (H), wherein the bearing arrangement includes at least one flexure (22) which is arranged to flex to cause said guiding; and at least one actuator component connected between the support structure and the movable part and arranged, on contraction, to drive rotation of the movable part around the helical axis, said rotation being converted into helical movement around the helical axis by the bearing arrangement, wherein the actuator assembly includes a resilient portion (41a, 41b), the resilient portion being configured not to deform during normal operation of the assembly, and which is such that, when the assembly is subject to external loads exceeding those of normal operation, the resilient portion is arranged to deform and to thereby permit movement of the movable part relative to the support structure in a plane orthogonal to the helical axis.

Abstract: An actuator assembly (23) is described which includes first part (24), a second part (25) and a bearing arrangement (26) mechanically coupling the first part (24) to the second part (25). The drive arrangement (11, 20) includes four lengths of shape memory alloy wire (141, 142, 143, 144). Each length of shape memory alloy wire (141, 142, 143, 144) is connected between the third part (28) and the second part (25). The drive arrangement (11, 20) and the bearing arrangement (26) are configured such that in response to a torque applied about a primary axis (z) by the drive arrangement (11, 20), the first bearing (27) generates movement of the first part (24) towards or away from the second part (25) and the third part (28) along the primary axis (z). The bearing arrangement (26) is configured to constrain rotation of the first part (24) relative to the second part (25) about the primary (z) axis.

Abstract: The actuator assembly comprises a first part (102), a second part (110) and a helical bearing arrangement. The helical bearing arrangement is arranged to guide helical movement of the second part with respect to the first part around a helical axis H such that rotation of the second part around the helical axis is converted into helical movement of the second part. The first and second parts comprise respective stops (152, 162) that are arranged such that the stops are spaced from each other throughout an operating range of said helical movement of the second part relative to the first part.
