Described herein is a rejuvenated asphalt and a method of rejuvenating asphalt comprising mixing a rejuvenator, bitumen, and aggregate to obtain an asphalt mixture, wherein the rejuvenator is present in an amount ranging from about 0.1-40 wt% by weight of the bitumen, and wherein at least 35 wt% of the bitumen is derived from recycled asphalt content. The rejuvenated asphalt provides desirable performance.

Aspects of the present invention provide methods of drying lecithin in a batch reaction, comprising the steps of obtaining a lecithin-containing material (derived from a crude refining stream) comprising 15-50% water, 10-30% acetone insoluble matter, and 10-20% free fatty acid; adding a fatty acid source (also derived from a crude refining stream) to the lecithin-containing material composition to obtain a lecithin/fatty acid reaction mixture; and blowing dry gas through the gum/fatty acid reaction mixture to obtain a resultant dried lecithin fatty acid blend having a water content of less than 2%. The resultant dried lecithin fatty acid blend may be used in asphalt or oil field applications.

Disclosed herein are rejuvenating compositions for asphalt applications. In one aspect, the rejuvenating composition comprises a polymerized oil having a polymeric distribution ranging from about 2 to about 80 wt% oligomer content and Hildebrand solubility ranging from about 6 to about 12. In another aspect, the rejuvenating composition comprises an oil having a Hildebrand solubility ranging from about 6 to about 12 and a flash point ranging from about 100ºC to about 400ºC. In yet another aspect, the rejuvenating composition comprises a modified oil having a Hildebrand solubility ranging from about 6 to about 12 and a flash point ranging from about 100ºC to about 400ºC.

Imidazoline functionalized oxidized fatty substance emulsifiers are made by obtaining a fatty substance composition; performing an oxidative oligomerization of the fatty substance composition to produce an oxidized fatty substance composition comprising from about 10 to about 75% by weight of oligomeric fatty acid components based on the total weight of fatty acid containing components in the composition; reacting the oxidized fatty substance composition with a polyamine comprising at least one ethylene diamine functional group with at least three hydrogens attached to the two nitrogens to form an aminoethylamido functionalized oxidized fatty substance composition; and forming an imidazoline functionalized oxidized fatty substance emulsifier from the aminoethylamido functionalized oxidized fatty substance composition. Such compositions are particularly useful in asphalt applications and corrosion inhibition.
