Abstract: A zoom lens system is provided including a flat cam for driving the zoom lens mechanism. In one particular embodiment, the same flat cam used by the zoom lens system is used to correlate the effective focal length of the zoom lens to the viewfinder. Additional particular embodiments of a viewfinder adjustment mechanism are provided wherein the viewfinder adjustment mechanism includes a diopter adjustment mechanism to adjust the ocular lens of the viewfinder to compensate for imperfections in the user's sight.

Abstract: A dual-purpose camera viewfinder (70) is provided. The viewfinder (70) is operable in a shooting mode and in a review mode. In the shooting mode, the camera provides a direct line-of-sight through the viewfinder for live viewing. In the review mode, an angled flipping mirror (76) is raised into the line-of-sight through and permit the user to view stored images reflected from a microdisplay (86) through the ocular lens (72). A loupe lens (84) magnifies the image from the microdisplay and directs the image to the angled flipping mirror (76). Additionally, entering the review mode closes an electrical circuit that signals the processor (100) to selectively power the microdisplay (86) and to control the display of the stored images.

Abstract: An image capture device (10) is provided which performs a combination of digital and optical zoom techniques to achieve high levels of zoom without sacrificing image quality. In a first embodiment, an opto-digital lens system is provided including a wide angle lens (20) and a normal lens (25), the transition between which is smoothed using moderate digital zooming. Starting from the wide angle fixed optical length, the processor (40) may be used to digitally zoom the captured image. Abstract: A parallax compensation system and method is provided for a camera including an independent viewfinder. For close focus pictures, the camera's taking lens is shifted towards the viewfinder. In one embodiment, for far focus pictures the camera's taking lens is moved away from the viewfinder and is not centered on the image recording medium axis. The lens shifting is accomplished by mounting the taking lens eccentrically in a lens barrel. Rotation of the lens barrel shifts the taking lens towards the independent viewfinder for close focus shots. In one embodiment, the viewfinder axis is tilted towards the taking lens to help iliminate parallax in close focus pictures.

Abstract: A parallax compensation system and method is provided for a camera (150) including an independent viewfinder (160). For close focus pictures, the camera's taking lens (140) is shifted towards the viewfinder. In one embodiment, for far focusing pictures the camera's taking lens (140) is moved away from the viewfinder (160) and is not centered on the image recording medium axis. The lens shifting is accomplished by mounting the taking lens (140) eccentrically in a lens barrel (130). Rotation of the lens barrel (130) shifts the taking lens (140) towards the independent viewfinder (160) for close focus shots.
