Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for heterologous expression of active fungal unspecific peroxygenase and/or variants thereof in bacterial host cells, preferably in Escherichia coli . The invention also relates to the recombinant active fungal unspecific peroxygenase and/or variants thereof thus obtained and to the use thereof. The invention further relates to a method for epoxidation of unsaturated fatty acids, or oxyfunctionalization of other organic compounds, comprising the recombinant active fungal unspecific peroxygenase and/or variants thereof obtainable by the method disclosed herein.

Abstract: The invention relates to a recombinant Marasmius rotula unspecific peroxygenase (rMroURO) and two mutants thereof, wherein said mutants show enhanced selectivity towards either the epoxidation or the (sub)terminal ω/(ω- 1)-hydroxylation of unsaturated fatty acids. The invention also refers to the use of these enzyme variants for the specific epoxidation or hydroxylation of fatty acids such as oleic acid, linoleic acid and/or alpha-linolenic acid.
