Abstract:
A light emitting diode (LED) module is in thermal communication with front and back heat sinks for dissipation of heat therefrom. The LED module is physically held in place with at least the back heat sink. A mounting ring and locking ring can also be used to hold the LED module in place and in thermal communication with the back heat sink. Key pins and key holes are used to prevent using a high power LED module with a back heat sink having insufficient heat dissipation capabilities required for the high power LED module. The key pins and key holes allow lower heat generating (power) LED modules to be used with higher heat dissipating heat sinks, but higher heat generating (power) LED modules cannot be used with lower heat dissipating heat sinks.
Abstract:
A retention structure for retaining a recessed lighting fixture behind a ceiling includes an attachment structure that has a first wall and a second wall. The attachment structure is designed to be attached to a housing of a recessed light fixture. The retention structure further includes a screw attached to the first wall of the attachment structure and to the second wall of the attachment structure. The retention structure also includes a pawl attached to the threaded screw. The pawl is rotatable along with the threaded screw. The pawl is also axially movable along the threaded screw between the first wall of the attachment structure and the second wall of the attachment structure.
Abstract:
A reflector is rotatably coupled to a light emitting diode (LED) module assembly. The reflector includes multiple alignment features that correspond with multiple notches provided in a reflector attachment coupled to a LED light source. The reflector can be made of a non-conductive substrate material, such as glass, and can have a non-conductive, reflective coating deposited on the inner surface of the reflector to allow the reflector to be more closely positioned to the LED light source. Reflector attachments can help to maintain precise reflector position during coupling with the LED light source. Media holders can be removably coupled to the light emitting portion of the reflector and provide for the quick mounting and placement of one or more optical media in the light path output by the reflector.
