The pin retainer can be removed from the ferrule, rotated to a reverse orientation, and re-installed on the ferrule to switch the ferrule assembly from a male configuration to a female configuration.

    摘要: Hardened fiber optic connectors having a mechanical splice assembly are disclosed. The mechanical splice assembly is attached to a first end of an optical waveguide such as an optical fiber of a fiber optic cable by way of a stub optical fiber, thereby connectorizing the hardened connector. In one embodiment, the hardened connector includes an inner housing having two shells for securing a tensile element of the cable and securing the mechanical splice assembly so that a ferrule assembly may translate. Further assembly of the hardened connector has the inner housing fitting into a shroud of the hardened connector. The shroud aides in mating the hardened connector with a complimentary device and the shroud may have any suitable configuration. The hardened connector may also include features for fiber buckling, sealing, cable strain relief or a pre-assembly for ease of installation.

The guide member has a slot extending in an axial direction and is configured to receive a portion of the fiber optic connector. The camming member is positioned next to the guide member and is movable between a first position spaced from the slot and a second position axially aligned with the slot. Additionally, the camming member is configured to engage and actuate a cam member of the fiber optic connector by moving from the first position to the second position when the fiber optic connector is received in the slot.

    摘要: A system for terminating one or more optical fibers comprises a fiber optic connector, a connector holder, and an installation tool. The fiber optic connector has a ferrule and a connector housing in which the ferrule is at least partially positioned. The connector holder receives at least a portion of the connector housing and has a base portion that defines a bottom surface of the connector holder. The installation tool includes a body with a connector holding area configured to receive and cooperate with the base portion of the connector holder to securely position the fiber optic connector on the body.
