Methods and apparatus for coating substrates. A die (110) can be employed for extrusion coating an elongated substrate, where the die (110) defines a coating cavity (134) therein. The die (110) can comprise a die block (120) having a coating supply channel (130) for supplying a coating material to the coating cavity (134). The die (110) can further comprise a guide plug (112) and a die plate (118) removably coupled to the die block (120). The guide plug (112) can comprise a substrate inlet (149) having a non-circular lateral cross - section, and the die plate (118) can comprise a substrate outlet (190) also having a non-circular lateral cross - section. A coating system comprising such a die (110) can operate to coat a substrate where the substrate can be pushed at least partially through the die (110) and contacts the coating material therein.
Abstract:
The present disclosure relates to polymer coating compositions that comprise at least one thermoplastic resin, at least one opacity modifier, at least one gloss modifier, and at least one impact modifier, articles at least partially coated with the polymer coating composition, paintable polymer coated articles and method for making the polymer coated and painted polymer coated articles. These compositions exhibit enhanced paintability (including paintability with water-based paints) and mechanical properties for fabrication (cutting, nailing, routing, etc.), while maintaining acceptable visual appearance, such as, for example, opacity, gloss, surface appearance, and surface roughness.
