Abstract: Therefore, a first aspect provides a brake module for a magnetically suspended vehicle. The brake module comprising a first magnetically active brake element coupled to a first brake magnet actuator comprised by the brake module. The first brake magnet actuator is arranged to control the first magnetically active element to provide a first magnetic brake field of a pre-determined magnitude at a first pre-determined location relative to the brake module, of which first magnetic brake field the first field lines are, in use, substantially horizontal and substantially perpendicular to a direction of travel of the vehicle. By providing an Eddy current brake having magnetic field components that are substantially horizontally oriented, influence of magnetic forces excited by the Eddy currents generated on the (vertical) suspension are reduced and preferably minimised.

Abstract: A method comprises controlling at least one of a first distance between a first side of the vehicle and the first guidance track and a second distance between a second side of the vehicle and the second guidance track and receiving a direction instruction corresponding to one of the first side and the second side, the one side being a directional side. Having received directional instruction, a directional distance between the directional side of the vehicle and one of the first guidance track and the second guidance track provided at the directional side of the vehicle is controlled. With no contact between vehicle and a guiding track, for example comprising rails, the distance between the vehicle and the guiding tracks along the trajectory needs to be controlled, preferably at a safe distance. This concept provides such control.

Abstract: A switch is presented for a magnetically suspended or at least guided vehicle. The switch comprises a fork from a first track segment to a second and third track segment. An elongate conductive module, for example a conductive wire is provided along at least the first track segment and optionally along the second and third track segment. The conductive module comprises conductor segments that guide a current with a directional component substantially parallel the length of the track, at a first surface of the track. With an electromagnet provided on a carriage having a pole directed to the first surface of the track, a Lorentz force may be provided for urging the carriage in a direction perpendicular to the length of the track. This allows a carriage moving along the first track segment to be urged towards the second or third track segment at the other side of the fork.
