Abstract: Different implementations are described, particularly implementations for video encoding and decoding are presented. According to an implementation, in a method for encoding or decoding a part of an image, at least an equation of the bi-directional optical flow is modified for unequal weights in a weighted prediction of the part of the image. According to non-limiting examples, modifying the bi-directional optical flow equation comprises bit depth shifting the unequal weights used in the weighted prediction, quantifying the unequal weighs used in the weighted prediction or deriving modified weighs to apply to predictions of the part of the image from the unequal weights used in weighted prediction.

Abstract: Methods and apparatuses for video coding and decoding are provided. The method of video encoding includes accessing a bin of a syntax element associated with a block in a picture of a video, determining a context for the bin of the syntax element associated with the syntax element and entropy encoding the bin of the syntax element based on the determined context wherein either the bin of the syntax element is based on the relevance of a prediction by a neural network of the syntax element or the probability associated to the context is determined by a neural network. In a second embodiment, an offset for the relative position of a first sample in the template among samples of a left, respectively top, neighboring line of the block is determined. In a third embodiment, the number of reconstructed samples is set to a higher number in the larger dimension of the block.

Abstract: To encode or decode a quantization parameter (QP) for a current block, a QP predictor may be generated, based on one or more quantization parameters of neighboring blocks of the current block. To select neighboring blocks, a position may be selected within the current block. A left (top) neighboring block, which includes a sample that has the same vertical (horizontal) location as the selected position can then be selected. A center position can be used, or multiple positions can be used. The QP predictor for the block may be formed as the left QP, the top QP, or an average of the left and top QPs. The average may be a weighted average, wherein the weights are based on the length of shared borders or surface areas of the neighboring blocks used for predicting the QPs.
