A merchandise display security tether (20) includes a mounting base (30), a releasable adhesive (40) for releasably attaching the mounting base to an article of merchandise (M), and a housing (50) configured to be positioned over the mounting base and a releasing portion (42) of the releasable adhesive. The housing is secured to the mounting base by a tamper-proof fastener (70) to prevent access to the releasing portion of the releasable adhesive. The security tether further includes a security cable (80) having a first end (81) attached to the housing and a second end (83) for attachment to a merchandise display (B, DS). The housing is removable by a special tool (100) to expose the releasing portion of the releasable adhesive. The releasing portion is pulled to release the mounting base and the article of merchandise without damage to the merchandise and without leaving an adhesive residue on the merchandise.

Merchandise display security device (20, 120, 220) for an article of merchandise having an audio cord (30) includes an electrical control circuit for producing a sense loop in the audio cord, monitoring a non-alarming state and an alarming state of the sense loop, and activating an alarm in the event that the sense loop changes from the non-alarming state to the alarming state. In one embodiment, the device (20) includes a security sensor (60) adapted for being attached to a media player (40). The security sensor has an audio jack (66) for receiving an audio plug (34) on the audio cord and includes an audio connector cord (47) having an audio plug (46) for engaging an audio jack (45) on the media player. The security sensor may be electrically connected to an alarming base (50) by a sense cord (54) and include a power adapter cord (43) for providing power to the media player through the sense cord and the power adapter cord.

Alarming cables, assemblies and systems for displaying and protecting a powered article of merchandise from theft include an alarm unit disposed between a first cable having a first connector for connection to a power source and a second cable having a second connector for connection to the merchandise. An alarm unit connector may connect the second cable to the alarm unit. The alarm unit and the alarm unit connector may each include a connection member to electrically connect the merchandise with the alarm unit and the power source when the alarm unit connector aligns with and engages the alarm unit.
