Abstract:
The present invention relates to a drive (2) for use in a computer or a reproduction device for accessing a record carrier. According to the invention via a specific action, supervised by the drive (2), the drive mimics the presence of a disc by sending a disc insertion message to the host (3). After that the drive (2) will give the host (3) (the virtual) file system contents of the virtual disc, which, for instance, contains a link to an auto-run file. This auto-run file tells the host (3) to perform certain actions, such as going to the specified internet site or executing a file from the virtual disc.
Abstract:
A recording apparatus for recording digital information signals on a removable rewritable disc like recording medium has been proposed. The apparatus comprises writing means (21, 22, 25) for recording the digital information signals and control means (20) for controlling the recording. The apparatus is capable of performing initialization, formatting and defect management of a rewritable medium. Further, the apparatus is capable of storing first file system data in a user area (UA) and second file system data in a general application area (GAA) on the medium. The control means (20) are adapted to modify defect management data on the medium in order to block write access to UA under control of the first file system. This prevents systems unaware of the second file system data on the medium from modifying contents of UA.
Abstract:
A device for recording blocks of information on logical addresses on a record carrier at corresponding physical addresses. The logical addresses are translated into the physical addresses in dependence of remapping information (57, 63) indicative for translating a logical address initially mapped to a physical address to an alternate physical address in a remapping area (55), for example for defect management. The device can operate at two addressing modes corresponding to recording user data and additional data in separate areas. The device has storage means for storing additional data (54, 62) while maintaining addressing mode for storing data in the user area (53), the storage means being arranged for assigning an additional data physical address to the additional data, adapting the remapping information (57, 63) to indicate that the additional physical address is not available for storing user data, and directly recording the additional data at the additional data physical address.
Abstract:
A device records information in blocks having logical addresses at a physical address in a track on a record carrier. The logical addresses are translated into the physical addresses in dependence of defect management information (52,53,61,64), which includes defect entries indicating locations for replacing defective physical addresses. A read-only state of the record carrier is obtainable via a no-replacement state indicated by substantially none of the defect entries being free for use. The device has a read-only unit for setting the record carrier to the read-only state by reading original replacement information indicating a writable state, storing the original replacement information (60) in a hidden area, and writing defect management information (61) that is modified to the no-replacement state. The record carrier may be re-opened by retrieving the original replacement information (60) from the hidden area.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a method and a device for random write and overwrite to a write once recordable medium, a method and a device for defect management on a write once recordable medium, a method and a device for undo changes made to a write once recordable medium, and a method and a device for reuse of a used write once recordable medium.
Abstract:
The invention discloses a method and a device for recording information on a multi layer optical disc using a multi session format. The use of multi sessions allows for an efficient use of the storage capacity of the disc, and for a fast finalization time.
Abstract:
A device for recording information on a record carrier (11) is arranged for formatting a multilayer record carrier. The device has formatting means (16) for formatting the record carrier according which formatting includes de-icing by, in the event that locations in the user data area have not yet been recorded, writing dummy data (60) on the locations. The formatting means (16) determine a first radial position (50) and a first layer (40), which first radial position is indicative of a location on the first layer on which user data will be recorded first according to a predefined recording format. Subsequently said de-icing is started by writing of dummy data on a second layer (41) of the record carrier at the first radial position, opposite the location of the first user data (55). Hence a de-iced area (58) is created opposite the user data (55).
Abstract:
The invention relates to a method and a recording device for easy and quick access to record carrier management information stored on the record carrier itself. The invention further relates to a record carrier for use in such a method and recording device.
Abstract:
A method of recording digital information signals on a removable rewritable disc like recording medium, the method comprising recording user data on a logical area of the disc and, prior to removal of the disc out of a recording/reproducing apparatus, finalizing the disc with a lead-in and lead-out area comprising predefined medium format data. A general purpose area within the logical area for other use than recording of user data, is being reserved. Such as use may be for example defect management. Further the method involves interrupting recording a lead-in area or a lead-out area at predefined splice points whenever a request for user data is made.
