    Abstract: A breathing assistance mask has an air blower arrangement at least for drawing air from outside into the mask volume. The temperature and relative humidity is monitored inside the mask volume and from this a threshold temperature can be determined, such as the dew point temperature (or a temperature dependent on the dew point temperature). By monitoring at least the exterior temperature, the air blower arrangement may be controlled to maintain the temperature in the air chamber above the threshold temperature, in particular to prevent condensation forming inside the mask volume.

    Abstract: A particle sensor device (100) for determining an ambient particle concentration in an air flow through the particle sensor device is disclosed. The particle sensor device comprises an air flow channel (110) extending between a first opening (111) open to an ambient environment including the ambient particle concentration and a second opening (113) open to said ambient environment, the air flow channel comprising a sensing area (115) including a particle sensor (120); and a processor (130) coupled to the particle sensor and configured to derive the ambient particle concentration from a first signal received from the particle sensor, said first signal being indicative of a first particle count in a wind- induced air flow through the air flow channel when the particle sensor device is stationary; and a further signal received from the particle sensor, said at least one further signal being indicative of a further particle count in an air flow through the air flow channel induced by a shaking motion of the particle sensor device to eliminate the influence of wind on the air flow through the air flow channel.     Abstract: The invention provides a breathing cycle monitoring device. A device is provided that incorporates a mask for covering the nose and/or mouth of a user, a first temperature sensor, a second temperature sensor and a controller. The mask has an air-permeable mask wall which defines a mask volume. In use, a microclimate exists inside the mask volume. The first temperature sensor is located inside the mask volume so that it is able to detect a first temperature of the air inhaled and exhaled inside the microclimate. The second temperature sensor is located outside the mask wall, at or adjacent to a surface of the air-permeable mask wall, so that it is able to detect a second temperature of the same air outside the microclimate. The controller compares the first and second temperatures across the air-permeable mask wall and is adapted to calculate a temperature difference parameter from the first and second temperatures. In doing so, the controller is able to determine a breathing cycle of the user.

    Abstract: The invention provides a mask which incorporates an air chamber, a filter, a fan arrangement, a sensor and a controller. The sensor detects a parameter relating to the temperature and/or relative humidity of air inhaled and exhaled over time by a user of the mask. The controller calculates a first value which depends on a first time derivative of the parameter. Based on this calculation, the controller determines a start of an inhalation and/or a start of an exhalation of the user. Therefore, the controller is able to accurately determine the inhalation and/or exhalation cycle of the user, thereby compensating for a time lag between the detected variation of the parameter over time and the inhalation and exhalation timing of the user. With this information, the controller operates the fan arrangement in synchronism with the inhalation and/or exhalation cycle of the user.
