Abstract: The present invention relates to a SiAlON ceramic material mixture comprising at least one a-SSiAlON first phase, at least one β-SSiAlON phase and at least one amorphous and/or crystalline intergranular third phase containing group IV elements as additives; and a method of producing ceramic compact (100) which uses the said mixture and comprises the steps of preparing a SiAlON ceramic material mixture (101), attrition milling the said ceramic mixture in water (102), drying the milled ceramic mixture (103), pressing the dried ceramic mixture to form a green compact (104), and sintering the green compacts under atmospheric pressure (pressure-less) and flowing nitrogen (105).
