Abstract: Disclosed is a streetlight system. The streetlight system has a LED light, a battery for powering the LED light, a photovoltaic cell for recharging the battery, a transformer that in use converts a mains power supply down to an output having an operational voltage of the LED light, and a control unit for detecting a voltage of the battery. The control unit is configured so that when the control unit detects that a voltage of the battery is above a threshold value the LED light is powered using the battery, and when the control unit detects that a voltage of the battery is below the threshold value the LED light is powered using the output having the operational voltage of the LED light.
