Abstract:
The present invention comprises a method of humidity indication comprising providing a substrate and an area of humidity indication comprising copper bromide, bromide salt, a dye, and cellulose fiber. In another embodiment of the invention, the invention comprises a humidity indicator array comprising a substrate having a plurality of areas of humidity indication on the substrate, wherein each area comprises copper bromide, dye, and bromide salt, wherein the mole ratio of bromide ions to copper ions in the area is about 7.5:1.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a package for protein containing foods comprising a sealable food covering and, in the interior of the covering, a permeable container wherein an absorbent is in the permeable container and the absorbent comprises an acid that substantially irreversibly reacts with biogenic amines within the covering to form a salt or an amide that is without objectionable odor or toxicity.
Abstract:
The invention provides for an extended shelf life single portion package including a container having therein a material for mammal ingestion that degrades by exposure to oxygen, water vapor, or carbon dioxide, an absorber selected from at least one of a carbon dioxide absorber, water vapor absorber, and oxygen scavenger wherein the container is substantially impervious to oxygen, carbon dioxide, and water vapor.
Abstract:
The invention provides for an extended shelf life package comprising a material for human ingestion that degrades by oxidation, comprising an oxygen scavenger comprising a transition metal oxygen scavenger, a container substantially impervious to oxygen, wherein the container has a filter suspended in the container, the filter holds the material for human ingestion, and the container also holds the oxygen scavenger. In another embodiment, the invention provides for an extended shelf life package comprising human ingestible material that degrades by giving off CO 2 comprising a carbon dioxide scavenger, a container substantially impervious to carbon dioxide, wherein the container has a filter suspended in the container, the filter holds the human ingestible material, and the container also holds the carbon dioxide scavenger.
Abstract:
A sulfur dioxide reducing composition for reducing the headspace concentration of sulfur dioxide in fruit packages includes a sulfur dioxide absorber having pores sized to retain sulfur dioxide therein and a clinching absorber on the sulfur dioxide absorber with which the sulfur dioxide reacts irreversibly with the sulfur dioxide.
Abstract:
The invention provides an article for oxygen absorption comprising a container containing a water-soluble ion source, an water activated oxygen scavenger, and a rupturable canister of hydrated polymer. The invention provides in another embodiment a method for providing timed or controlled oxygen absorption comprising providing an article for oxygen absorption comprising a container containing a water-soluble ion source, an water activated oxygen scavenger, and a rupturable canister of hydrated polymer, rupturing the canister, whereby the hydrated polymer and water-soluble ion source come in contact and release water, and the water as it is released activates the oxygen scavenger.
