    Abstract: A nanostructure that includes a multi-layered fullerene-like nano-structure composed of a plurality of layers each having a metal chalcogenide composition that has a molecular formula of MX 2 , in which M is a metallic element selected from the group consisting of titanium (Ti), vanadium (V), chromium (Cr), manganese (Mn), iron (Fe), cobalt (Co), nickel (Ni), copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), zirconium (Zr), niobium (Nb), molybdenum (Mo), technetium (Tc), ruthenium (Ru), rhodium (Rh), palladium (Pd), silver (Ag), cadmium (Cd), hafnium (Hi), tantalum (Ta), tungsten (W), rhenium (Re), osmium (Os), iridium (Ir), platinum (Pt), gold (Au), mercury (Hg) and combinations thereof, and X is a chalcogen element selected from the group consisting of sulfur (S), selenium (Se), tellurium (Te), oxygen (O) and combinations thereof. An outer layer of the multi-layered fullerene-like structure includes at least one sectioned portion that extends along a direction away from the curvature of the multi-layered fullerene-like nano-structure.

    Abstract: A water based dispersion that includes lubricating nanoparticles. The lubricating nanoparticles can be provided by at least one intercalation nanoparticle of a metal chalcogenide in dispersion with the water base. The at least one intercalation nanoparticle may have a geometry that is fullerene-like, tubular-like structure or be substantially spherical or the intercalation nanoparticles may include particles have each of the aforementioned geometries. The intercalation nanoparticle is surface treated with a dispersant that is water soluble and includes a polar functional group.

    Abstract: A drilling fluid including a drilling fluid medium selected from the group consisting of water, air and water, air and foaming agent, a water based mud, an oil based mud, a synthetic based fluid, and a composition thereof. The drilling fluid also includes at least one intercalation compound of a metal chalcogenide having molecular formula M.X2, where M is a metallic element such as tungsten (W), and X is a chalcogen element such as sulfur (S), wherein the intercalation compound has a fullerene-like hollow structure or tubular-like structure.
