Abstract: An ultraviolet-curable (UV-curable) adhesive composition is disclosed. The adhesive composition comprises: A) an epoxy curing agent component; B) a microencapsulated epoxy resin component; C) an expansion agent component; D) a binder component; and E) a photoinitiator component. The adhesive composition is useful for forming an adhesive. In various embodiments, the adhesive composition is in the form of a stick. The adhesive composition is useful for securing a fastener (e.g. in a borehole).

Abstract: A coating composition comprises: A) an epoxy curing agent component; B) a microencapsulated epoxy resin component; C) an expansion agent component; D) a binder component; and E) a solvent component. In various embodiments, components B) and C) are present in a weight ratio of from about 20:1 to about 1 :20. An ultraviolet-curable coating composition comprises components A), B), C) and D). The ultraviolet-curable coating composition further comprises F) a photoinitiator component. After rupture of component B), the compositions cure to form an adhesive. The compositions are useful for fasteners (e.g. screws and bolts) such that they can be referred to as fastener adhesives. A powdered adhesive composition comprises components A), B) and C). The powdered adhesive composition is substantially anhydrous and/or substantially free of a solvent (e.g. component E)). The powdered adhesive composition is useful for securing a fastener (e.g. in a borehole).

Abstract: A composite article comprises an article presenting a surface and a thermally expandable composition disposed on the surface of the article. The thermally expandable composition comprises (a) from about 35 to about 65 percent by weight of a polyolefin resin; (b) from about 2 to about 15 percent by weight of a thermoplastic resin; (c) from about 1 to about 6 percent by weight of a curing agent suitable for cross-linking the polyolefin resin (a); (d) from about 15 to about 45 percent by weight of filler; and (e) from about 1 to about 10 percent by weight of a chemical blowing agent which is activated at an activation temperature, each based on the total weight of the thermally expandable composition. Methods of preparing and using the composite article, and an assembly formed from the composite article, are also disclosed.
