Abstract: The present invention relates to a crane monitoring, warning and protection system. The crane monitoring, warning and protection system comprises at least one anemometer (70) for measuring wind movements in the vicinity of a crane and a database on at, a forecast module (60) for collecting and analyzing wind movement data from the at least one anemometer (70) and a database on atmospheric data (80) to predict possible occurrence of a hazard, and a processing unit (40) for monitoring the crane connected to the at least one anemometer (70) and the forecast module (60). The processing unit (40) generates an alert signal based on the prediction from the forecast module (60). Upon detection of a hazard, the processing unit (40) activates a crane lock (30) to stop movement of the crane along a rail direction.
