Abstract: A power converting system is described, comprising a source of waste heat (17) and an organic Rankine cycle system (5). The organic Rankine cycle system in turn comprises at least a turboexpander (21), at least a rotating load (29) mechanically coupled to the turboexpander (21) and driven thereby, and a variable-speed mechanical coupling (31) between the turboexpander (21) and the rotating load (29).
