Abstract:
A ballistic body armor damage sensing system (10) having a body armor ballistic plate (12) including at least one ballistic layer (16), (18), (20) and at least one damage sensing layer 14 coupled to the at least one ballistic layer (16), (18), (20) and including a plurality of electrically conductive members (22) which are positioned throughout said damage sensing layer (14), wherein when a fired projectile impacts the body armor ballistic plate (12) and damages one or more of the electrically conductive members (22), the damaged electrically conductive members (22) exhibit a measurable change in electrical resistance.
