Abstract: The present invention provides a method for structurally designing that article of manufacture and a constructed and operational article of manufacture that will allow the inclusion of minimally coupled higher order/degree shim coils in any magnetic resonance apparatus. The novel system and methodology includes determining the shim coil terminal voltage without any prior or advance knowledge of the configuration of the electrical windings of the imaging gradient coil that is inducing that voltage.

Abstract: A system and method of generating Radio Frequency (RF) pulses RF(t) in a Multi-band (MB) Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) system is presented. The method includes determining a dirac comb function, the period of the comb function determining the frequency separation of the excitation bands. The method further includes determining a single band frequency selective pulse, defining the envelope of a pulse of RF(t), and the shape of individual excitation frequency bands in the frequency domain. The method further includes determining the shape of RF(t) during each period, and is used to modulate uniformity and/or number of individual excitation bands in the frequency domain. RF(t) pulses are generated in the MRI system simultaneously with an MRI gradient so as to simultaneously excite multiple slices within a subject, wherein the RF(t) pulse create a spin response.

Abstract: A system and method for shimming an MRI system includes a plurality of shim coils distributed around a bore of the MRI system, the shim coils distributed around the bore so that applying an amount of current associated with each coil of the plurality of coils produces a desired magnetic field, wherein the magnetic field is expressed as a set of spherical harmonic terms, each spherical harmonic term having an order. The amount of current associated with at least one coil is different from the amount of current associated with another coil, and at least one coil of the plurality of coils is configured to contribute to a plurality of spherical harmonic terms having different orders.

Abstract: A system and method of mapping and correcting the inhomogeneity of a magnetic field within an object using an Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) system where there is a single dominant resonance. The method includes acquiring at least three MRI images, each at different echo times (TE). At least two ΔTE images (ΔTE i=1...N ) are generated based on the at least three MRI images, wherein the subscripts I = 1 N refer to images with sequentially increasing ΔTE times. Aliasing in the ΔTE1 image is permitted. The ΔTE times of ΔTE1 and ΔTE2 are set such that the alias points at which wrapping occurs in ΔTE1 does not overlap with the alias points of ΔTE2. Each ΔTE image is unwrapped. A final B0 map is set to the unwrapped ΔTEN image.
