Abstract:
Surfactants and solvents containing derivatized adducts formed from Diels-Aider reactions of terpenes and unsaturated carboxylic acids or their derivatives are disclosed. Processes for making and derivatizing the Diels-Aider adducts are also disclosed. In some embodiments, the Diels-Aider adducts are prepared by reacting farnesene or myrcene with an unsaturated carboxylic acid or its ester or anhydride. In other embodiments, the Diels-Aider adducts are prepared by reacting farnesene or myrcene with an unsaturated nitrile. The Diels-Aider adducts are then derivatized in a variety of ways to form the anionic, cationic, amine oxide, amphoteric or nonionic surfactants.
Abstract:
Provided are methods for decreasing the reaction time between an alkanolamine such as triethanolamine and a fatty acid alkyl ester such as, a triglyceride, a vegetable oil, a methyl ester, an ethyl ester, etc., a fatty acid, or a mixture thereof. The methods utilize a divalent zinc catalyst to facilitate and accelerate an esterification or transesterification reaction between the alkanolamine and the fatty acid, or fatty acid alkyl ester.
Abstract:
Provided is an adjuvant for agricultural pesticides comprising at least one dialkyl alkanolamine such as dimethyl ethanolamine, at least one derivative thereof, or a combination thereof. A pesticide composition comprising glyphosate herbicide and the adjuvant of the present technology and a method for enhancing the herbicidal effectiveness of glyphosate herbicide in an aqueous composition through the addition of the adjuvant of the present technology are also provided.
