In another aspect, the engineered bacterial cells further comprise a bacterial kill switch. The disclosure further provides pharmaceutical compositions comprising the engineered bacteria, and methods for treating liver disease, such as nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), using the pharmaceutical compositions of the disclosure.
