Abstract: An absorbent article 20 for personal hygiene comprises a liquid permeable topsheet 24, a liquid impermeable backsheet 25, and an absorbent core 28 between the topsheet 24 and backsheet 25. The absorbent core 28 comprises a core wrap enclosing an absorbent material 60. The absorbent material 60 comprises a superabsorbent polymer. The core wrap comprises a top side 16 facing the topsheet 24 and a bottom side 16' facing the backsheet 25. The absorbent core 28 comprises one or more substantially absorbent material free area(s) 26 through which a portion of the top side 16 of the core wrap is attached by one or more core wrap bond(s) 27 to a portion of the bottom side 16' of the core wrap. The top side 16 of the core wrap is at least colored in the portion of the top side 16 of the core wrap which is attached by one or more core wrap bond(s) 27 to the portion of the bottom side 16' of the core wrap so that the color of the top side 16 of the core wrap forms one or more colored area(s) 126 visible from the exterior of the absorbent article 20. When the absorbent material 60 swells, one or more core wrap bond(s) 27 at least partially open(s) so that the colored area(s) 126 becomes no longer or less visible from the exterior of the absorbent article 20.
