The present invention relates to a method of preparing a photochromic-dichroic film that includes a photochromic-dichroic layer. The method includes forming a molten thermoplastic photochromic-dichroic composition that includes a thermoplastic polymer and a photochromic-dichroic compound. Optionally at least one further molten thermoplastic composition is formed, each of which independently includes a further thermoplastic polymer. A molten stream is formed that includes a first molten layer (29) composed of the molten thermoplastic photochromic-dichroic composition, and at least one further molten layer (26, 32), each of which is independently composed of a further molten thermoplastic composition. The molten stream is passed between a rotating roll (11) and a continuous belt (14) that move in the same relative direction. A photochromic-dichroic film having reduced/minimal optical distortion is obtained (e.g., continuously) from between the rotating roll and the continuous belt.
