Abstract: Disclosed is a medical device having a substrate having an exposed surface and a texture over at least part of the exposed surface. The texture includes a plurality of nanofeatures that inhibit bacterial adhesion on the surface and that also inhibit bacterial growth on the surface and have a size range between about 0.01 nanometers and about 1,000 nanometers. The texture can include a plurality of nanofeatures applied thereto such that the texture has a first particle size at a first location, a second particle size at a second location, and a gradient of particle size from the first particle size to the second particle size between the first location and the second location.

Abstract: A retaining plate with locking mechanism assembly includes a retaining plate having a first screw hole extending therethrough and a spring blocker rotatably mounted in plate proximate to the first screw hole. The spring blocker includes a body portion, a first land extending radially from the body portion above the retaining plate, and a first wing extending tangentially from the first land in a first arc. When a first screw is inserted into the first screw hole, when the spring blocker is rotated to a first position, the first land extends over a portion of the first screw. When the spring blocker is rotated to a second position, the first wing extends over the portion of the first screw. When the spring blocker is rotated to a third position, neither the first land nor the first wing extends over the portion of the first screw.

Abstract: An orthopedic implant system includes a wedge implant. The implant includes a body having an upper surface extending generally in a first plane. The upper surface has a first plurality of longitudinal grooves and a second plurality of transverse grooves extending therealong. Portions of the upper surface extend between adjacent longitudinal grooves and transverse grooves form individual peaks. A lower surface extends generally in a second plane, parallel to the first plane. The lower surface has a third plurality of longitudinal grooves and a fourth plurality of transverse grooves extending therealong. Portions of the lower surface extend between adjacent longitudinal grooves and transverse grooves form individual peaks.
