    摘要: An electrochemical cell electrode plate structure, a high-pressure electrochemical cell device, and a method for preparing such devices, are provided. The inventive electrode plate structure comprises a laminar assembly of slotted plate-shaped components that provides more uniform openings or flow passages across the active areas thereof. The laminar assembly comprises at least one first plate-shaped component and at least one second plate-shaped component wherein said plurality of openings of said first and said second plate-shaped components of each set in said assembly are offset from each other thereby forming a plurality of reduced area, identical or substantially identical, openings or fluid-flow spaces through said set. The inventive high-pressure electrochemical cell device comprises at least one cell made up of both slotted and unslotted plate-shaped components that are free of material deformations typically resulting from the high compressive force employed during final cell assembly. The inventive method for preparing such devices basically involves preparing at least one laminated sub-assembly comprising unslotted component layers for the purpose of consolidating such weaker layers into stronger sub-assemblies prior to a final lamination step.

    摘要: An airbag gas generator has a housing (2) within which a solid gas generating composition (6) is located. The container has an opening (11) through which a gas formed during fuel combustion exits the container. A gas distribution cap (13) is fitted to an outlet end (10) of the housing (2), the cap (13) having a projecting lip (17) at a forward end (16) thereof. The housing (2) has a corresponding recess (12) in the outlet end (10) for accepting the lip (17) therein. The cap (13) further has a plurality of longitudinal slots (15) through which the gas is distributed, the slots (15) defining flexible wall segments (19) which deform during insertion of the cap (13) into the outlet end (10) prior to engagement of the lip (17) with recess (12) for locking the cap (13) to the housing (2). Utilizing the present invention, threaded or welded joints are avoided and a light weight, low cost assembly is achieved.

    摘要: A method for improving the effectiveness of a labyrinth seal (40) between coannular components (22, 30) in a turbine engine (10) includes reconfiguring one of the components to provide means for receiving and retaining a replaceable brush seal (60) and installing the brush seal so that the seal bristles impede the leakage of air through an intercomponent gap (41). In the preferred embodiment the reconfiguring step is applied to a hollow, cylindrical barrel (30) and includes machining the barrel to reduce its axial length and its wall thickness and also includes attaching a retainer (52). The retainer cooperates with the barrel to define a groove (56) within which the brush seal is trapped radially and axially. The brush seal slides circumferentially within the groove to facilitate seal installation and removal. The invention dispenses with the need to carry out an expensive and time consuming replacement or renovation of the worn labyrinth seal.

    摘要: A method of bonding a titanium article to another metal article using a superplastic interlayer is disclosed. A fine-grain titanium alloy interlayer is provided between faying surfaces of the articles to be bonded. The interlayer has an alpha-beta microstructure and an average grain size of less than about 1-3 microns (.001-.003 mm) in at least one plane. The articles to joined and the interlayer are heated to between 1000 DEG F (538 DEG C) and 1500 DEG F (816 DEG C). A sufficiently large compressive force is then applied to the articles to cause superplastic deformation of the interlayer and bonding of the articles.

    摘要: A gas feed system for detonation gun apparatus having a recoil controlled aperture. The combustion chamber (12) is mounted within the housing of the detonation gun (2) and biased in the downstream direction by a spring (73). The combustion chamber (12) having apertures (28) communicating with the fuel and oxygen supply in the biased position. During the detonation process a portion of the detonation energy acts on a closed portion of the combustion chamber (12) to overcome the spring (73) force and slide the combustion chamber (12) in the upstream direction and thereby closing off the apertures (28) from communication with the fuel and oxygen supply. The apertures (28) allow the fuel and oxygen supply to flow into the combustion and precludes the migration of the detonation into the fuel supply by completely closing off communication between the supply and the combustion chamber (12). The recoil gas feed system increases safety, reliability and productivity of the detonation coating process.
