Abstract: An energy conversion device comprises a thermionic emitter (10) for emitting electrons therefrom when exposed to a radiation source, the emitter comprising a substrate (11 ), a metallic layer (12), carried by the substrate (11 ), and a nanoparticle layer (13) containing lithium-processed diamond nanoparticles, the nanoparticle layer (13) being in electrical contact with the metallic layer (12), a collector (20), spaced apart from the thermionic emitter (10), and arranged for collecting electrons emitted by the thermionic emitter (10), and first and second electrical connections (50), arranged to be in electrical contact with the metallic layer (12) of the emitter (10) and the collector (20) respectively.
