Abstract: The disclosure discusses chiral dopants for liquid-crystalline materials. Chiral dopants can be bioreachable compounds, i.e., compounds produced from microbes through fermentation. Chiral dopants can also include bioreachable materials that are further modified by chemical synthetic steps. Chiral dopants as discussed herein can include biomolecules such as glycyrrhetinic acid (1), S-narigenin (2), shikimic acid (3), alpha-phellandrene (4), betulin (5), malic acid (6), valencene (7), or nootkatone (8), and any stereoisomers or chemically modified derivatives thereof. The disclosure further shows optical properties of such compounds in a liquid-crystalline material.

Abstract: An epoxy resin composition comprises about 70 wt % to about 95 wt % by weight of the composition of an epoxy component; and a curing component comprising about 5 wt % to about 30 wt % by weight of the composition, wherein the curing component is includes an imidazole; wherein the epoxy component and the curing component react together at a temperature of about 100 C to about 130 C to form a substantially cured reaction product in about 10 minutes or less and the cured product shows high tensile and flexural strength.

Abstract: Systems and methods for enabling construction of a complex Boolean chemical substructure query in a structured graphical user interface are provided. The chemical substructures (molecules) may be represented graphically in standard molecular notation, and may be arranged horizontally and vertically on the interface, along with Boolean logical operators. Boolean logical operators of a first type may logically associate molecules arranged in horizontal fashion to form row queries, whereas Boolean logical operators of a different, second type may logically associate the row queries to form a composite query to be applied to a database of molecules. The operators of the first type may comprise disjunctive operators, whereas the operators of the second type may comprise conjunctive operators.
