Abstract:
A hydrogel fishing bait has a fish attractive scent infused into a water swollen hydrogel. The hydrogel can be a copolymer of at least one water miscible monomer and a cross-linking monomer. The hydrogel can be a terpolymer of hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA), acrylamide, and a crosslinking monomer. The hydrogel terpolymer can be prepared in the shape of a fish or other fish attracting shape. The scent can be an amino acid, protein, fatty acid, sugar, or any combination thereof, and can be from a natural or artificial source. The hydrogel can be filled with a fiber, mesh, or matrix material. The hydrogel can be an interpenetrating polymer network. The hydrogel can be biodegradable. The hydrogel baits when fully hydrated on their surface do not stick to each other.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a bait for lobsters and other crustaceans. The bait comprises fish meal, an alginate complex or carrageenan, at least one calcium compound, and fish hydrolyzate, said bait being attractive to a crustacean and being sufficiently durable for use as a bait to withstand submersion under 50° ocean water at a depth of at least ten feet.
Abstract:
A fish-attractant product (10) that facilitates catching fish includes a body (12) preformed into a predetermined shape (34, 36, 38, 40, 42) from a material dissolvable in water. The body (12) of the product contains an olfactory and/or gustatory fish-attractant material that is releasable in water in which the product is immersed. The product is adapted in use not to be swallowed by a fish and is directly and/or indirectly attachable to a fishing line (16) ahead of a lure (18) or a baitable hook (26), such that the fish-attractant material during use provides a fish-attracting odor and/or taste through dissolution of the body (12). The product (10) is a separate component designed to add fish-attractant gradually to the water by positioning it on the fishing line (16) directly in front of the selected lure (18) or the angler’s preferred bait. Methods of making and using the product (10) are also disclosed.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a novel attractant for fish and mollusks isolated from the eggs of the horseshoe crab, Limulus polyphemus. The invention also relates to a method for attractant peptide extraction, separation, purification, quantitation, and characterization of function. In other aspects, the invention provides for the isolation of the attractant peptide from horseshoe crab eggs for use as "bait" for attracting fish and mollusks. More particularly, the invention relates to the use of biochemical approaches to characterize a peptide attractant, and provides for the creation of recombinant or synthetic attractant peptides, and their use.
Abstract:
Disclosed is fishing bait in the form of powders, comprising grain, sodium salt, powdered edible acid and spice and loess, which is advantageous in terms of high fish-attracting effects. The present invention relates to a fishing bait which generates bubbles, characterized in that when a predetermined amount of the bait is hooked and introduced into water, bubbles occur for several minutes, thereby stimulating the visual sense of fish due to the generated bubbles, as well as the sense of smell of fish, thus increasing fish-attracting effects.
Abstract:
Bait for attracting crustaceans and non-crustaceans which are caught in trap fishery. The bait includes a pelletized carrier composed of ingredients intended for long life in sea water. The pelletized carrier is mixed with specific attractants depending on the desired catch and a fish oil is added to coat the pellets and attractant and to allow for the timed release of the attractant. In experiments to date, it has been found that the use of the pelletized carrier and attractant together with the fish oil coating has been effective as a bait in attracting catch and has an extended life within the traps.

Abstract:
Abstract:
A two stage method of manufacturing an artificial or synthetic permanently shaped edible fish bait whereby, the first stage involves preparing for use by the angler a dry pre-mix powder containing wheaten flour, fish meal products, protein food derived from beef tissue, dehydrated and hydrogenated edible fats, flavour enhancers, sugar, vegetable gums, cornstarch, semolina, sterilized flour products, flavour, flagrances, skim milk powder, herbs and spices, salts, water-soluble colouring, food acid, sodium meta disulphate which is then dissolved or suspended in boiling water to form a structurally cohesive mass that is firm, pliable and self-supporting and which on cooling, will form a set slab structure whereby, in the second stage, this structure is cut into permanently shaped parts suitable for use as edible fish bait pieces.
Abstract:
This invention relates to a bait useful for catching and/or feeding fishes and other aquatic animals, particularly to angling bait, as well as a holder device for delivering the bait into water and retain it therein. The angling bait according to the invention or the fry-breeding food, respectively are created by a mixture transformed to a body containing solid granular, preferably powder-like basic material, optionally binding material as well as additives. It is characteristic of this mixture that it contains also a material useful to burst the body, to distribute it as a cloud in the water and to induce effervescence on contracting with water. The bait is in general prepared from the mixture by extrusion-granulation to obtain a body form. The bait cartridge (1) is not fermented, does not become acidic and does not result in contaminations during delivery.
