A modular crib assembly with structures for providing layered, detachable mesh walls and other safety features is described. An optional insert for smaller children and a kit comprising the assembly components are further described.

Retainer bar assemblies are provided for use is an adjustable base of a support cushion. The retainer bar assemblies include a retainer bar having a horizontal rod and two legs connected to the horizontal rod with an end portion that extends from each leg in a direction substantially parallel to the horizontal rod. The retainer bar assemblies further include a pair of brackets where each bracket defines at least one channel for receiving the end portion of the two legs. Each channel has a vertical segment and an angled segment such that each channel is configured to allow the horizontal rod to be moved upward and rotated away from each bracket. Adjustable support cushions or bed assemblies that include the retainer bar assemblies are also provided.

A mattress retention system for adjustable beds employs a tension web (16) attached to a top surface (15) of an element (13) of an articulating support structure (12), The tension web (16) is inset from a longitudinal edge and lateral edges of the articulating support structure element (13) and incorporates a first fastener moiety (17) on an extending edge. A mating element (24) is attached to the bottom surface of a mattress (10) adjacent an edge to be restrained. The mating element (24) incorporates a second fastener moiety (29) for operable connection to the first fastener moiety and includes a web section (28 ) having a first edge attached to the bottom surface of the mattress and a second edge carrying the second fastener moiety (29) for flexibility in attaching the fastener moieties.

A system is provided for enhancing the safety of a sleeping arrangement for a child on a bed. The bed includes a mattress and a boxspring. The system includes a frame to enclose a perimeter of the mattress and the boxspring. The frame includes a plurality of sections, which are removably attached at respective junctures with hook and loop fasteners. An outer surface of the frame is formed from a plush material. The plurality of sections includes a pair of side sections which extend along a respective pair of opposing side surfaces of the mattress and the boxspring. The pair of side sections includes a respective vertical bumper configured to extend from a top portion of the side sections by a predetermined height, to prevent the child on the bed from passing outside the side surfaces of the mattress and falling from the mattress.

A device with a support for a mattress to accommodate a person on the mattress which includes a framework including connectors to secure the framework in upstanding relation peripherally about the mattress; the frame work includes corner posts each extending a generally common distance above the mattress, and frame members spanning the corner posts and thereby at least partially defining a safety zone space between the corner posts and between the members and above a mattress on the bed. A net having an inside and an outside surface supported on the framework and enclosing the space, wherein the net has a normally closed opening provided with a closure member for the net opening with an operator structure to open and close the opening accessible only from outside the net.

Raised bolsters (25) built into the top surface of the mattress (20) adjacent to its lateral edges help to prevent the patient from falling out of the bed (10).
