The invention discloses a cooking apparatus, in particular a deep fat fryer, with removable vessel (3) for containing the cooking cofactor (9) and the food to be cooked, comprising a frame (1) in which is provided a housing (2) for receiving the vessel (3), heat-controlling means (5) relative to the vessel (3) for controlling the temperature level of the vessel (3), means for protecting against overheating (6) relative to the vessel (3) for preventing the vessel (3) temperature level from exceeding a preset security threshold, means for detecting the presence (7) of the vessel (3). A cooking apparatus includes a housing (3) made of a plastics material which is degradable at high temperatures, and mounted around and at a certain distance away from a metal vessel (1) resting on a series of supports (5-20-33) made of a heat resistant material and inserted between the upper edges of the housing (3) and the vessel (1) so as to form air circulation passages therebetween. Each of said supports (5-20-33) comprises a head (9-25-36) which is rigidly fixed to the upper edge (4) of the vessel (1), and a body (10-23-34) engaging the upper edge (6) of the housing (3) and held thereto by means of a fastening element (11-31-39). The apparatus is useful particularly as a household chip fryer.

A storage reservoir (13) is used for storing condensate that has precipitated on the cooling surface (7), and a collecting gutter (21; 121; 221) serves for collecting condensate that has precipitated on the window (22). The collecting gutter (21; 121; 221) extends along a bottom end of the window (22) and includes a drain (30; 130), via which drain the collecting gutter (21; 121; 221) communicates also with the vapor discharge channel (6) for draining condensate to the vapor discharge channel (6). Furthermore, a provision for signalling deep-frying activity in response to heating by hot vapor is described.

The oven (10) further includes a structure (11) delimiting a cooker space (15) and the heating means (22) further include a cooker (26) situated in the said cooker space (15), and the structure (11) includes thermal insulation (30) for preventing heat transfer between the oven space (12) and the cooker space (15).
