Die Erfindung betrifft ein Prothesenschaftsystem mit einem starren Außenschaft (10), der eine proximale Außenschaftöffnung (14) zur Aufnahme eines Extremitätenstumpfes eines Trägers des Prothesenschaftsystemes aufweist, und einem flexiblen Innenschaft (20), der mit dem Außenschaft (10) verbunden ist und eine proximale Innenschaftöffnung (24) zur Aufnahme des Extremitätenstumpfes aufweist, wobei zumindest eine Dichtlippe (26) an einer dem Extremitätenstumpf zugewandten Innenseite des Innenschaftes (20) angeordnet ist.

A prosthetic system (100) includes a prosthetic liner (104) adapted to provide an interface between a residual limb (101) and a prosthetic socket (102), and a valve assembly (122). The valve assembly (122) is arranged for regulating fluid communication between an interface region (126) defined between the prosthetic liner (104) and the residual limb (101) and a suspension chamber (118) defined between the prosthetic liner (104) and the prosthetic socket (102). The valve assembly (122) is configured such that a vacuum in the suspension chamber (118) selectively moves the valve assembly (122) between a closed position in which the valve assembly (122) fluidly separates the suspension chamber (118) from the interface region (126), and an open position in which a portion of the vacuum in the suspension chamber (118) draws fluid from the interface region (126) via the valve assembly (122) into the suspension chamber (118).

A lower limb prosthesis (10) comprises a foot component (12) and an ankle unit (16) pivotally mounted to the foot component (12). The ankle unit (16) comprises an ankle joint mechanism (18) comprising a hydraulic piston and cylinder assembly for providing hydraulic damping whenever the ankle joint flexes, and a vacuum mechanism (20) comprising a pneumatic piston and cylinder assembly for generating a vacuum. The hydraulic and pneumatic piston and cylinder assemblies are arranged such that the vacuum mechanism generates a vacuum during plantar-flexion of the ankle unit (16).

In one aspect, novel robust electroactive polymers (EAPs) is described, which contract and expand at low voltages to provide for a shape-morphing system, e.g ., a prosthetic liner, and potentially entire prosthetic socket, to contract and expand in strategic areas as needed to maintain a comfortable and good fit throughout the day. In some embodiments, as the residual limb changes, these novel robust EAPs can change dynamically as needed to maintain a comfortable, snug fit of the prosthetic liner or socket with the hard shell of the prosthetic socket device. In some embodiments, the EAPs used in prosthetic liners or sockets can also be used to detect pressure as the device is being used, and automatically adjust to maintain fit through a control unit, so that the patient does not even have to stop and adjust his or her device as he or she goes about an active day.

Various embodiments of a system and method for sealing a prosthetic socket are disclosed. One example socket sealing system may comprise: a prosthetic socket having a proximal end, an expanded section, and an internal peripheral shoulder; a brim seal having an inner proximal end, an outer proximal end, and a distal end; a removable brim having a distal end; a liner; and a wicking sock; wherein prosthetic socket may be oriented radially outwardly of the outer proximal end of the brim seal, the outer proximal end of the brim seal may be oriented radially outwardly of the removable brim, the removable brim may be oriented radially outwardly of the inner proximal end of the brim seal, the inner proximal end of the brim seal may be oriented radially outwardly of the wicking sock, and the wicking sock may be oriented radially outwardly of the liner; and wherein the brim seal may be reflected about the distal end of the removable brim.
