    摘要: Prosthetic feet that provide for variable and adjustable stiffness are provided. A foot element can include a tongue portion defined or formed by a slot in the foot element that at least partially separates the tongue portion from a remainder of the foot element. The tongue portion can be operably connected to the remainder of the foot member to increase the stiffness of the foot member or operably disconnected from the remainder of the foot member to increase the flexibility of the foot member. The prosthetic foot further includes a mechanism for adjusting whether the tongue portion is operably connected or disconnected from the remainder of the foot member. The mechanism can be selectively actuated to adjust the stiffness of the foot element in dorsiflexion and/or plantarflexion and/or to adjust the degree to which the tongue portion is allowed to flex relative to the remainder of the foot member.

    摘要: Prosthetic joint and limb components utilize a single, curved dampening cylinder to reduce component count and wear. A prosthetic foot/ankle requires only three major components; namely, a housing adapted for coupling to a foot blade, an ankle component adapted for coupling to a pylon, and a piston that moves within a curved cylinder in the housing during ambulation. The ankle component is pivotally attached to the housing at the center of curvature of the cylinder. The piston defines front and rear, variable volume chambers in the cylinder. The chambers are in fluid communication with one another via a port, such that fluid is exchanged, between the chambers through one-way check valves as the ankle pivots between plantarflexion and dorsiflexion. Fluid flow is independently adjustable to establish and maintain desired levels of dampening during plantarflexion and dorsiflexion, including different levels of dampening.

A portion of the split (43) can curve in a medial or lateral direction. Portions of the split (43) can also be straight, but askew, from a longitudinal axis of the upper element (32). The plate-like lower element (52) can also include a similar curved split (53) that separates the lower element (52) into a medial blade (58) and a lateral blade (59). These features, among others, are designed to provide multi-axial movement capabilities of a natural human foot and enhance roll-over properties while in use.

The socket system includes: a liner (30) adapted to engage the residual limb (6); a socket (80); an air wick (40) between the liner and the socket; a sealing sleeve engaging the socket and the residual limb, the sealing sleeve, the outer socket, and the residual limb creating a sealed chamber; and a vacuum source (600) connected to the sealed chamber and creating a vacuum within the sealed chamber. The vacuum source is dynamically activated in response to weight-bearing loads and varies the response of the socket system to shear forces imposed by weight-bearing loads. The socket system also includes a hydraulic pump (380,390) driving the vacuum pump (600) to supply vacuum to the sealed chamber. The socket system may also include hydraulically- activated bladders (900) driven by the hydraulic pump to engage the residual limb (6) to support and protect problem areas on the residual limb and increase stabilizing pressure during weight-bearing.
